Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 6 March 1988. Stokes describes her early life in Wilkinson COunty, Mississippi and Chicago, Illinois. She talks about her religious experiences, her conversion to the Mormon Church, and its influence on her marriage and relationship with her daughter. She also comments on her experiences as a black Mormon.
